Project Summary

Opened in 1968, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre (HRMSC) has undergone several renovations in its history.  The last major renovation was in 1997 when the exhibit areas on the main floor were added to the Centre.  It is time to renew our exhibit areas and the planetarium theatre by creating a Business Case for the renovations.

Project Objectives

Building on previous inspections and construction analysis, the object of this project is to build an UpToDate Business Case for funding acquisition that details quantitative (cost/pricing) and qualitative (timeline for renovations etc.) analysis for renovations to Space Centre and Exhibits.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in developing Business Cases
  • Demonstrated successful experience as a project manager on facility renovation & construction projects
  • Strong background in Project Estimating
  • Experience in installation and removal of digital technology is desirable

Estimated Time Commitment

10 – 12 hrs/wk.

Start Date: September 1, 2019                                                   End Date: December 15, 2019

Scope of Work

The Volunteer Project Manager will work with Director of Finance to produce and Business plan that will include but not limited to budget estimation and scheduling for the following areas:

  • Star Theatre (projector/dome]
  • Start deck
  • Bathrooms (costs separately)
  • AV: Auditorium, lounge, studios, star theater
  • Cosmic Courtyard
  • 720 Immersive Experience (including SIM removal)
  • Main lobby
  • Auditorium
  • Lower lobby refresh

Deliverables

  • Business plan that includes latest estimates for budget and schedule for renovations.

Accountability

The PM volunteer will have end-end accountability on project deliverables, reporting to the Sam Badiei, Director of Finance.

Benefits

Sam Badiei will provide a letter of recommendation to the PM volunteer at the successful conclusion of the project, and serve as a reference if appropriate.
