Cycle 5 to Survive

A Journey of Purpose: From Passion to Impact

P.L. Meindertsma, overwhelmed by eighty-hour workweeks, discovered his motto—patience + purpose = peak performance. This led to ‘Cycle 5 to Survive’ (C5TS) in 2022, aiming to raise $500,000 for five charities by cycling across five continents.

With his wife Kristen, guided by Peter Mulholland of Project Management Volunteers (PMV), they recruited Sarah Haysom, a project manager. Despite challenges, including Kristen’s health scare, they began their first ride from Banff to Mexico in 2023.

In 37 days, they completed their ride successfully and exceeded the fundraising target. Their journey, backed by a dedicated team, highlights the power of vision and perseverance.

“Volunteering in a PMV sponsored project was a great opportunity for me to grow on the field of project management as well as event management while contributing to a passionate cause. PMV opened a door for me to instantly engage in this new career which I am now transitioning to, and I am very grateful for the work you have done. Couldn’t have found a warmer environment to acquire and test new skills like at Children’s Organ Transplant society.”
