Organization Mission

Horse Council BC is a membership-driven not-for-profit association representing the interests of the equine industry in all sectors throughout British Columbia. Tradition, strong values, and hard work provided by our volunteers have made Horse Council BC the largest and most successful multi-discipline, multi-breed equine association in Canada.

Horse Council BC actively represents equestrian interests in agriculture, industry, sport, and recreation through education, grant funding, club support, government advocacy, liability insurance, and participant programs.

Project Summary

Due to HCBC’s industry representation with the government, the organization as it is currently structured is not able to achieve charitable status.

In an effort to diversify revenue and enhance service offerings to our members, affiliates, and club partners, the organization is looking to create a separate entity, to be referred to as the HCBC Foundation, to raise and disburse funds for equine programs and services that are priority focus areas for HCBC.

Project Objectives

  • To create a business case for an additional not-for-profit business entity under Horse Council BC that is charitable status eligible
  • Outline risks and best practices for organizations adopting this organization setup
  • Develop communication plans for Board members, organizational stakeholders, and members
  • Develop project scope and parameters for phase two of this project which would be rolled out and implemented upon successful approval
  • Obtain approval from the Board of Directors or General Membership (TBD) for the HCBC Foundation

Qualifications

  • 3 years of project management experience
  • Experience within the not-for-profit sector is an asset
  • Knowledge of equestrian sport, recreation, or agriculture
  • Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, or business case development

Estimated Time Commitment

16 hours a month for 4 months

Start Date: February 1, 2023                                        End Date: May 31 ,2023

Scope of Work

The Volunteer Project Manager will work with the project development lead, Craig Cherrett, and other stakeholders to produce a bluishness case for the new HCBC not-for-profit entity.

Deliverables 

  • Creation and development of a project plan to ensure future phases of the project are successful.
  • Advise the project development lead in the overall project management process including monitoring, project scope, timeline, and budget throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide recommendations to the project development team to mitigate risks and ensure the delivery of a successful project.
  • Provide a completed Presentation of the business case for board approval
  • Outline Phase Two (implementation proposal) to be submitted to the board.

Accountability

The PM volunteer is responsible to have end-to-end accountability on project deliverables, reporting to the Executive Director of HCBC.

Benefits

Craig Cherrett, Executive Director will provide a letter ofrecommendation to the PM volunteer at the successful conclusion of the project, and serve as a reference if appropriate.
