Organization Mission  

Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House is a community gathering place in the heart of the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood.  Our mission is to play a leadership role in building a healthy and engaged neighbourhood by connecting people and strengthening their capacity to create change. We provide community-based services to people of all ages – from babies to seniors – and to all demographics, including low income, immigrant and urban Aboriginal populations.

Project Summary

The Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House needs a Volunteer Project Manager to coordinate the renovation, upgrade and expansion of the commercial kitchen facility to make it more accessible for all clients.

Project Objectives

  • Help select General Contractor (GC) and HVAC Contractor for renovation
  • Coordinate between GC, HVAC Contractor and subtrades and the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House staff to ensure minimal disruptions with daily operations
  • Oversee the Commercial Kitchen renovation to a successful conclusion.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated successful experience as a project manager on commercial renovation & construction projects
  • Knowledge of zoning and bylaws.

Estimated Time Commitment

2hrs per wk. to start going up to 5 hrs per wk. during construction.

Start Date: 1st of April 2020                                                           End Date:1st of October 2020

Scope of Work

The Volunteer Project Manager (VPM) will coordinate with The Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House Operations Director with the selection of a General Contractor, and HVAC Contractor.  The VPM will then coordinate with all stake holders to ensure the successful renovation and upgrade of the commercial kitchen.  This will also include ensuring that all City of Vancouver permit requirements are met including those for the HVAC upgrade.


  1. Schedule of work for renovations and upgrade including risk register
  2. Successful selection of General Contractor and HVAC Contractor
  3. Weekly progress reports during construction
  4. Renovated and Upgraded Commercial Kitchen.


The PM volunteer will have end-end accountability on project deliverables, reporting to Michael Volker Director of Operations Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House.


Michael Volker will provide a letter of recommendation to the PM volunteer at the successful conclusion of the project, and serve as a reference if appropriate.
